Privacy Policy
We collect only what we need to do our work, never sell personal information, and protect the privacy of applicants and partners. This policy explains the details.

Our Approach
The Patrice Lumumba Center for Human Dignity collects only the information it needs to do its work and protects what it holds. We do not sell or rent personal information, we do not run advertising trackers on this site, and we treat the privacy of applicants, partners, and correspondents as part of our duty of care — not an afterthought.
This policy explains what we collect through this website, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
Information We Collect
We collect information in two ways: information you choose to give us, and limited technical information collected automatically when you visit the site.
- Information you provide. When you submit a fellowship application, request an institutional briefing, send a message, or subscribe to updates, we collect what you enter — typically your name, email address, affiliation, and the contents of your message.
- Limited technical information. Our hosting infrastructure may record standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and reliability. When you sign in to a restricted area, we use an essential session cookie to keep you authenticated.
We do not ask for, and we ask that you not send, sensitive personal information through the public site or its forms.
How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to inquiries and route correspondence to the right person;
- Review and evaluate fellowship applications and partnership proposals;
- Send updates, materials, or briefings you have asked to receive;
- Maintain the security, integrity, and reliability of the site;
- Keep records appropriate for funder, audit, and legal accountability.
How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We share it only in limited circumstances:
- Trusted service providers. We use a small number of vetted providers — for example, for site hosting, authentication, and email — who process information on our behalf under confidentiality obligations and only as needed to deliver their service.
- Legal obligations. We may disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of the Center, our partners, or the public.
- Protection of partners. Consistent with our duty of care, we do not publish the names, locations, or identifying details of partners or participants where disclosure could create risk.
Cookies & Sessions
This site uses only essential cookies — principally a session cookie that keeps you signed in to authenticated areas. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, though some features that require sign-in may not function without them.
Data Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required for legal and funder record-keeping. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or render it anonymous.
Security
We apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to limit what we collect and to protect what we keep.
Your Choices & Rights
You may ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you may unsubscribe from updates at any time. To make a request, write to office@lumumbacenter.org and we will respond within a reasonable period.
Children's Privacy
This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.
International Visitors
The Center operates from the United States (Washington, DC Metro Area). If you contact us or use this site from outside the United States, you understand that the information you provide may be processed and stored in the United States.

We may update this policy as the Center's work and obligations evolve. When we do, we will revise the date below. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
